First Race After Repairs | Devil's Bowl Mini Stock Aug 3, 2024

The month of July 2024 tested every part of me. The Honda is finally all back together and the first try out for the new repairs came with starting 1st in the 20 lap feature. Smaller tires made hitting the rev limiter too easy, and I know how to adjust going forward. Thanks to E&E Tire, Bearded Wrench, and Main Street Graphics for their help this year.

A decent first half of the race up front turned into a recovery drive after a late decision to go low turned into being sideways in turn 3. After May proved to be a tough month on track at Devil's Bowl in West Haven, VT, the first day of June and a race on the small, flat inside track proved fruitful for the 65 car. The new Honda felt and sounded stronger than ever, and I felt more confident behind the wheel. Only made one mistake all race running wide in in turns 1 and 2 which demoted me down the order. What started out as a great 2 laps and moving up 3 spots ended abruptly when yet another rain shower moved in. Safe to say I'll be thinking about the next 13 laps all week long ahead of the upcoming Championship Weekend at Airborne Speedway! A very unique feel in the track led to a night running in the top 10 but not without some metal-twisting adversity. I thought the 13 car was going to slide down and off of the track, but he came back up and I was put into a sandwich. Car handled amazingly after still, and it was a great fight betwen 5th to 8th during the final green flag stretch. Thanks to E & E Tire Co for doing an amazing job...

Note to self: don't shift under power with a bad clutch. The transmission issues reared its head again on the race start, causing me to fall all the way back in the pack. The adjustments made after the heat races made a world of difference and I was able to handle the car amazingly to make up some lost ground. Onto next week. Back on the podium! The car absolutely came to life in the last half of the race once I was able to get wound up on the high line. 15 laps, no cautions. That's it. That's the video. After a pretty hectic opening night, going caution free in this feature was just what our division needed. Only managed to move up one position from the start in the 15 laps but I got a good feel for the Cobalt and can make adjustments for the races to come. Start: P9. Finish: P8. Overall the car felt solid, but had problems getting the power down on corner exit and found myself in the back of the top 10 all race. Thankfully the new tires mounted by E & E Tire Co. in Burlington, VT held the banking perfectly and I was able to fight for a few positions through the race. Ride along with the 65X Chevy Cobalt for what was an up-and-down 44 laps at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, New York. The track surface was way rougher than I expected, which made for an interesting night at the track. Big thank you to E & E Tire Co., The Traveled Cup, Main Street Graphics, and The Bearded Wrench for helping me get on track. These Saturdays have been pretty fun.

How do you make these tracks
There's something missing: When the lights go out, what we need to hear is, "It's lights out and away we go!", not whatever you did. Other than that *grave sin,* I think David Croft would be proud.
I was 12 back in 1967 and recall channel 38 quite well. UHF channels had circular antennae that required fussing to get tuned in. It was hard to follow the puck but it still was so much fun to watch when Espo, Orr, and the others took a doormat team to one of the best. I remember the tv announcers being Donn Earle and Pat Egan doing color. The latter was entertaining in his own right.
